Dr. Paulo Bianchi Franca was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro Brazil. He holds EE and M.Sc. degrees from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Brazil and M.Eng. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Franca has been working with computers since 1967. He published two textbooks in Brazil; one of them, the very popular "Introducao aos Microcomputadores" (Introduction to Microcomputers) was very successful and sold 150.000 issues. His new book C++ No Experience Required has just came off the press. This is published by Sybex and incorporates a very innovative approach to teach Object Oriented Programming to real beginners using C++.
Dr. Franca is currently interested in Object Oriented Programming with C++ and the techniques to teach this subject.
Dr. Franca has been associated with the Computing Laboratory (NCE-UFRJ) of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro since 1970 and is an associate professor of computer sciences at the same University since 1981. Dr. Franca has been an associate visiting professor at Santa Clara University (1992-1993) research associate at UC. Berkeley (1993) and Lecturer at UC Santa Cruz in Computer and Information Sciences.
