Multi-Tasking
- One Computer may be working in several tasks concurrently
- Actually, one task at a time, one small fraction of time for each task
- Run one task until it gets blocked (need I/O activity) or enough time has elapsed
- Computer must remember what was being done and where is stopped last in each task
- More memory allows more tasks to be carried on
