Using the labs:

What is so different about our lab sessions?

find out here!

During the lab sections, you should follow this procedure:

  • Login - to identify yourself
  • Sign in - to get attendance points
  • Take your preparation quiz
  • Do your lab assignment as described in the lab manual
  • Take your lab quiz
  • Fill in your assignment sheet and turn it in to your supervisor.

Login:

Login is the process that lets the computer know who you are. This is what you should do:

  • As soon as you get to the lab, go to our web page and click on login on the left margin
  • You will be asked for your username and password
  • Your username is your name in the cats email account if you have one; if you did not have one when you signed in for the class, then your username is your student id number with no dashes.
  • Your password is the last four digits of your student id number. Notice that your password for the class IS NOT the same as your cats account!
  • Note: if you were not registered before the class, then your name is not in the computer. Ask your supervisor to add you to our list.

Signing in:

Signing in is the process that makes the computer mark your attendance to the lab. You have to login first, but you can only sign in when the lab is in section, otherwise you will not be eligible to have attendance.

  • From the class home page click on register/login
  • If you are not logged in, click on login and complete the login sequence
    • Login will let the computer know who you are
  • After login in, click on Sign in
  • Fill in the section number for this lab you are attending (A,B,C, etc)
  • Click on submit. This should be enough, the computer will remember that you were there in time.
    • Sign in will cause the computer to check if there is a lab in progress and mark attendance points for you.

Taking the Prep quiz:

You need to take two quizzes during the lab session. The first quiz is the preparation quiz and is a very simple quiz that checks if you read the lab instructions and knows what you are expected to do in the lab.

  • You must take this quiz within 15 minutes after the session started. If you are late, you missed this quiz.
  • This quiz can only be taken once.
  • If you see the questions once, the computer assumes you are taking the quiz. If you close the window with the questions, and try to take the quiz later, the computer will say you already took the quiz. Therefore, if you want to read any material while taking the quiz, keep the quiz window open and use another window to look at the material.
  • Click on submit to have your quiz graded by the computer. You will see your grade and your answers after the quiz.

Lab Quiz

After you work on your assignment, you must take your lab quiz. The lab quiz is based on the work that you should have done. Sometimes this quiz may require you to do some additional work to find out your answer.

  • You cannot take this quiz immediately after you get to the lab. This quiz is only available after 30 minutes since the session started. Also, you must FINISH this quiz BEFORE the end of your lab section.
  • This quiz can only be taken once.
